    Dear friends and colleagues,

    The American Board of Medical Specialties has reached out to us to help identify individuals who might be interested in applying for their "Visiting Scholars" program for the coming academic year.  The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation is interested in co-sponsoring up to three ABMS Visiting Scholars; projects relating to improving the quality, safety, or value of diagnosis (or addressing diagnostic error) are very appropriate.  Further information is attached and included below, copied from their email to us.

    PS –  For those who apply, please let us know if you are accepted into this program, and what your project will focus on.

    Best regards to all,

    Mark

    The ABMS Visiting Scholars Program is a one-year, part-time program that positions early career physicians, and others with relevant advanced degrees, as future health care leaders. ABMS Visiting Scholars conduct research relevant to initial and continuing Board Certification in collaboration with mentors from their institutions and liaisons from ABMS and its Member Boards.

    The Program facilitates their research in areas such as:

    *   Physician assessment

    *   Physician performance improvement and quality improvement

    *   Physician continuing professional development

    ABMS Visiting Scholars remain at their home institutions and participate in monthly webinars with medical educators, physician assessment experts, practice improvement leaders, and others. Visiting Scholars attend three in-person leadership meetings, presenting their research findings at the annual ABMS Conference. Each Scholar receives a financial award to support the direct costs of research and travel expenses associated with his or her program participation.

    The Visiting Scholars Program provides physicians with a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, to engage with major health care organizations, and to network with fellow Scholars and leaders within the ABMS Boards Community.

    Due to the novel coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19), the application deadline for the 2020-2021 ABMS Visiting Scholars Program has been extended to July 1, 2020.  An informational webinar will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at 6:00 pm CT.
